The eclipse was viewed from the Bulgarian Army Base near the small Black Sea fishing village of Shabla, Bulgaria.
The first photo below shows the "Diamond Ring", as the sun begins to slip completely behind the moon. The image is fuzzy due to the effect of the high winds (driven by the sudden temperature drop at totality) on our lightweight portable tripod.


Promenances (plasma held above the Sun's surface by strong magnetic fields) can be seen on the lower left and right sides of the solar disk.

The tenuous Solar Corona consists of hot ionized gas at temperatures of up to 6,000,000 degrees-K.
1000 mm lens on a 35 mm camera at 1/15 sec, f/16 on Kodak Gold Plus 200 print film

A shorter exposure (1/500 sec) provides a better view of the solar prominances and the flare that is occurring on the lower right side.
